I wanted to share the full image of the piece I submitted to the Hope Heals Gospel Project as mentioned earlier. I had the concept floating around in my head for a couple of months so it was great to have the motivation to actually create it. :)
Each artist was asked to sum up what the Gospel means to them. Here is my artist statement that goes with the art I call "Blessed Assurance".
“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” – John 3:16
Even when difficult trials come our way, we, as believers in Christ, have the blessed assurance of life everlasting because we are covered by the blood of Jesus. I tried to represent that truth in this piece. The rain symbolizes the pain and suffering that can come our way in this world. The red umbrella represents Jesus's shed blood that covers us in the midst of the storms of life. The girl is smiling and looking up because she knows that her sins have been forgiven and that she has the hope of heaven. I chose to portray a young girl because the bible makes it clear that we are to come to Him as little children. Children are humble, trusting, and they also don't have a problem being dependent on someone. Lastly, I often use fabric scraps in my artwork because it reminds me of how God takes our old discarded pieces and gives them new life.
Here is the link to vote for your favorite piece if you are into audience participation. Although, to me, it's less of a competition and more of a movement...
